Gelato’s revenue from the creator economy more than tripled between 2021 and 2022 and lifted Gelato’s total revenue to exceed €107 million. 34 production hubs were added to what was already the world’s largest network for production on demand of personalized items.
More than 25,000 new ecommerce players placed orders through Gelato last year, and millions of orders were fulfilled and delivered to end-customers in 184 countries.
Through its network of more than 130 production partners in 32 countries, the Gelato platform gives any ecommerce seller access to the same speed, global scale and profit margins as larger brands. Waste, transportation distances and carbon emissions are drastically reduced because orders are made locally and on demand, rather than through centralized mass-production.

In 2022, more than 85% of Gelato’s orders were produced in the same country as the end-customer. By the end of 2023, Gelato plans to expand its network of production hubs to around 200, with 95% of all orders to be fulfilled locally.
Throughout 2022, the company has been developing a sustainability calculator displaying a real-time overview of customers and partners’ consumption of CO2, water, energy, and other resources. The calculator, currently in beta testing and planned for launch in spring 2023, will also show the emissions saved through producing locally across Gelato’s marketplace instead of producing the traditional way.

Also, from a strategic and financial perspective, Gelato has never been stronger,“ says Müller-Hansen. “We are privileged to be in a position of growth and good cash control for many years to come after our €210 million funding round in 2021, of which €150 million was new capital invested in the company.”
The company’s cash balance still exceeds €120 million from the 2021 funding round.
