Gelato establishes consumer unit to address the fast growing photo merchandise market

Jose Herrero joins Gelato as Senior Vice President for Consumer & Partnerships

More than 5 billion pictures are uploaded daily to internet platforms from 3.6 billion smartphones in use globally.* A growing number of those pictures are being printed as posters, calendars, greeting cards or photo books. Just the photo book market in the US and Europe is estimated at USD 1.6 billion for 2016, a 14% growth since 2013.**

Almost 2 million customers across 16 countries have ordered personalized photo products with Gelato. Those customers have used Optimalprint, Gelato’s online store, or Gelato Air, the white label solution that allows leading consumer brands to offer personalized photo products. Gelato Air partners like book retailer Norli or Sandviks with Babykort benefit from stronger customer relations and increased revenue by offering their customers a highly relevant new range of products.

With the photo product market growing rapidly, Gelato further invests into the home & family segment by establishing a new business unit - Consumer & Partnerships. The new unit will be led by Jose Herrero, SVP Consumer & Partnership.

“I am extremely excited to join Gelato, a platform company that is changing the way people share their creativity. Gelato’s consumer offerings lead in each market in terms of customer satisfaction. We are committed to bringing the joy of designing memories via our platform to more consumers, through geographical and product portfolio expansion. The launch of photo books and calendars is the first step of this expansion”, says Jose Herrero.

Jose Herrero has seventeen years of experience in management consulting and sales within global companies. Jose joins Gelato from his position as EVP and Managing Director Commercial Marine Division at Navico. Prior to that, he spent 9 years at Bain & Company and 3 years at Deloitte Consulting. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and a MSc in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

“Gelato’s journey started in the consumer business with Optimalprint and it continues to be an important part of Gelato’s growth. Jose has the global experience needed to further expand Gelato´s consumer business across the world. We are excited to have him lead the consumer and partnership team”, says Henrik Müller-Hansen, CEO Gelato.
