At a time when the pandemic has impacted tourism and limited engagement with indigenous businesses, community members based in New Zealand’s Tolaga Bay have found new income through the use of Gelato's platform.
Lily Stender, a Māori businesswoman who runs Tolaga Bay Innovation Tech Hub which supports grassroots entrepreneurs, reached out to Founder and CEO of Gelato, Henrik Müller-Hansen, with the idea of facilitating a programme that would empower locals to upscale their businesses.
Six Māori entrepreneurs attended a training program supported by Gelato on how to build and grow an ecommerce company. They now have the skills to expand on a global scale with Gelato's an end-to-end solution for local production and delivery of customized products in 30 countries.
