Why Gelato?

"Brands names should be both distinctive and noticeable. They must be provocative and suggest that there is a new and perhaps better idea here. Gelato delivers on those key requirements – short, memorable, colorful and fun. Gelato is disruptive, a new model in printing. Gelato is not a traditional company. They needed a name that was both bold and of the future"
David Placek, founder Lexicon Branding

What does ice cream have to do with printing? As a matter a fact – quite a lot. Our name conveys our vision of bringing colors to our industry and to make people happy. Gelato is accessible and simple, just as ice cream. And not least, it’s easy to remember and just tastes good.

But how did we come up with the name?
While founded in Norway, Gelato always had a global vision and decided early on to invest in a name that works across the globe. So we hired one of the best: The person behind the name Gelato, David Placek, created brand names like BlackBerry, Swiffer, Pentium, OnStar, Dasani and Outback.

When we asked him why he came up with Gelato, he said: "Brands names should be both distinctive and noticeable. They must be provocative and suggest that there is a new and perhaps better idea here. Gelato delivers on those key requirements – short, memorable, colorful and fun. Gelato is disruptive, a new model in printing. Gelato is not a traditional company. They needed a name that was both bold and of the future”, says Placek, founder of Lexicon Branding.

Gelato Globe is one brand and product in the Gelato family. It is complimented by Gelato Air - a white label solution for consumer print products and Gelato Cloud - a print cloud solution for designers and creatives.
